Camp Courtney hosts Annual Lord of Tegan Run

Athletes from the local and U.S. communities raced up the hills of Camp Courtney during the Lord of Tegan Run March 11 aboard Camp Courtney.
The annual race invited the local community on base for a friendly fun-run and gave the communities a chance to bond through exercise.
“This is a great way to get the family out of the house and enjoy a beautiful morning,” said Sonny Jones, the adult sports director with Marine Corps Community Services. “It also helps to promote health and fitness.”
Approximately 50 athletes of all ages participated in this year’s event. Timing bands were worn on the athlete’s ankles to give them their exact run time.
“I wanted to see my run time improve,” said Kazuhiro Nishimura, a participant from the local community. “I like to see my times get faster with timed events like this.”
Athletes were able to choose between a 5-kilometer and a 10-kilometer route. Awards were given to winners of the different age categories and race distances.
“I think opening the base to the local community is very helpful,” said Sgt. Joseph Cripe, a participant and tactical switching operator with Combat Logistics Regiment 35. “It allows us to get that face-to-face contact, and this event lets us run together and build bonds of friendship.”
