    2d Cavalry Regiment

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany - Dynamic Front is an annual U.S. Army Europe multinational training exercise focused on the joint interoperability of U.S., NATO and joint service nation artillery assets. This year, the exercise included more than 3,700 participants from 26 nations.

As a participant in Dynamic Front 18, the Field Artillery Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment’s main objective was to provide timely, accurate, predicted fires in support of the 1st Artillery Brigade, British Royal Army in order to enhance multinational interoperability and integration. Nested in the mission, the FA commander’s intent was to build readiness with XVIII qualifications and an air assault artillery raid.

Table XVIII is a squadron-level artillery gunnery table that trains the squadron to conduct squadron-level fire missions and to mass fires at the squadron level.

In order to facilitate this table, the FA Squadron embedded a liaison officer in the 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, 1st Artillery BDE’s tactical operations center. The liaison officer bridged the gap of voice communications between two fire direction centers, resulting in timely and accurate predicted fires.

“One of the fantastic aspects of being assigned to the FA Squadron, 2CR is the opportunity it affords me to enhance multinational interoperability,” said 1st Lt. Patrick Pasquet, liaison officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, FA Squadron, 2CR. “During the Squadron’s Table XVIII, it was my role to ensure that effective communications flow between the firing element and our squadron FDC, ensuring a successful fire mission.”

Within the squadron FDC, 1st Lt. Jehan Ballachino, fire direction officer, HHB, FA Squadron, 2CR, also knew that ebb and flow of communications would be vital during the squadron-level fire mission.

“Dynamic Front 18 provided us the opportunity to execute Artillery Gunnery Table XVIII and train the FA Squadron to conduct tactical fire direction and mass fires at the squadron level in support of 2CR,” said Ballachino.

As Dynamic Front 18 came to a close, the FA Squadron came out a better and stronger organization, with the Squadron successfully certifying on Table XVIII, enhancing multinational operations and forging relationships that will continue to flourish.
