HULMAN FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ind. (Jan. 31, 2018) — Airmen assigned to the 181st Intelligence Wing will participate in a military drill and ceremony competition at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, March 3.
The Indiana National Guard Drill and Ceremony Competition is being held for the first time in many years.
Traditionally, the Indiana National Guard held an annual drill and ceremony competition, but the tradition ceased. That tradition has now been reestablished, and the winner of the competition will receive a traveling trophy to display at the winning unit’s home station as a symbol of discipline, professionalism and pride.
Units will send their best team to compete in the ceremony, where they will be judged on appearance, color guard, armed drill and unarmed drill along the path to victory.
At Hulman Field, that path began in the Hangar.
We have quite a bit of training to do, said Chief Master Sgt. Robert G. Beasley, the command chief master sergeant of the 181st IW. There are specific commands we have to memorize, and thinking back to Basic Military Training will get us there.
The importance of the competition is not lost on Beasley.
We are representing the Air Guard, said Beasley.
The 181st IW is expected to field a team of seven Airmen. The Airmen will compete against teams from the 38th Infantry Division, 81st Troop Command, 122nd Fighter Wing and 138th Regional Training Institute.
