CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait – The 113th Engineer Facilities Detachment based out of Weldon Springs, Missouri, conducted a transfer of authority ceremony with its successor unit, the 871st EFD, based out of Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Feb. 14, 2018.

During their nine-month deployment from May 2017 to February 2018, the 113th completed more than 46 projects in Iraq, Syria and other Middle Eastern countries, valued in excess of $70 million.

The 113th Soldiers distinguished themselves with their work, which included design, assessment and project management over military building projects.

Commanding officer of the 113th, Lt. Col. Mark Andrews, praised his Soldiers during the ceremony.

“You’ve helped raise the standard of living for civilians, Soldiers, and governments,” said Andrews. “You’ve increased the force protection posture resulting in countless lives saved. Through design and construction guidance, you created a major logistics hub that now serves countless comrades in arms.”

The 113th is a detachment of just 14 Soldiers, four for whom this was their first deployment. Under Army doctrine, the unit’s mission is to conduct basic facilities maintenance and manage work orders. On this deployment, the team designed facilities and military bases throughout the Middle East. Now it is time for the 113th to return home to their families and pass on the mission to the 871st Engineers.

Incoming 871st commander Lt. Col. Kenneth Schlorf described his team as talented and motivated Soldiers from around the country.

“I was blessed to receive some of the best Soldiers I could have requested,” said Schlorf.

Schlorf thanked Andrews and his team, “For their guidance and assistance in setting up the 871st for success on our deployment. They have been an invaluable asset.”

Col. Anthony Adrian, the 35th Engineer Brigade commander, congratulated and thanked the 113th EFD for their outstanding achievements.

“The 113th EFD has provided outstanding facility engineer expertise throughout the operations area since the end of May 2017. This small unit operated at the theater level supporting operations across Iraq, Syria, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait,” Adrian said. “Godspeed on your return home!”

Adrian stated to the 871st EFD, “I know you will pick up seamlessly where the 113th left off and continue to push the envelope on the potential of this unique capability. Welcome to the Muleskinner team.”
