Three U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant selects, were inducted to the top enlisted rank during a Chief Recognition Ceremony on Al Dhafra Air Base, Feb. 22, 2018.
Leadership joined with Airmen of all ranks assigned to the ADAB as they celebrated the achievements of Chief Master Sergeant selects James Kitch, Zackeriah Stys and Rene Valdez.
There were three guest speakers for the evening event, one Airman representing each tier of the enlisted Air Force rank structure. Starting with the Airman category was Senior Airman Jasmine Griffin, 380th Expeditionary Medical Group mental health technician.
“I believe the foundation of your role is to take care of your Airman and in return the Airman will take care of the mission,” said Griffin. “It isn’t the stripes that place value in the Airman who wears them, it is the Airman themselves who bring meaning to the rank of chief master sergeant.”
From the noncommissioned officer tier, Tech. Sgt. Tevaarian Pruitt, 380th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron combat intelligence cell section chief, reminded everyone the role a Chief can play in an Airman’s life.
“When I think of the rank Chief Master Sergeant, I think of a coach,” said Pruitt. “Someone that takes pride in guiding the players, so they make sure our team continues to win.”
The speeches concluded with Master Sgt. Nathan Thrun, 380th Expeditonary Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management training section noncommissioned officer in charge, representing the senior noncommissioned officer tier as he set expectation for the new chief’s.
“I need a Chief with integrity because you owe that to all those Airmen out there who someday want to be you,” said Thrun. “And I’m hopeful that as I look out on our honorees, I’ve got what I need.”
The night concluded with the Chief’s charge, an oath taken by all Air Force chief selects, and a candle lighting formation recognizing each rank the honorees held on their journey to Chief Master Sergeant.
“I’ve never been honored by my peers like this before,” said Chief Master Sgt. James Kitch 727th Expeditionary Air Control Squadron chief enlisted manager. “I’ve won military awards and decorations, but to have peers while you’re deployed, recognize your achievements like this, it’s rewarding.”
