    FORT BUCHANAN, Puerto Rico –

Soldiers, family members and distinguished guests from the 94th Training Division (Force Sustainment) stationed on Ft. Buchanan, Puerto Rico, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially opened a new training center for the 1st Battalion, 333rd Regiment, 94th Training Division (FS), February 13, 2018.

When hurricanes Irma and Maria hit the island, they caused Caribbean-wide damage to most structures. The opening of the training center was delayed, not because it was damaged, but because it was being used as one of the few structures that was operational during and after the storm.

“When the trees hit the building, the trees broke and the building stood strong,” said Col. Guy D. Bass, commander of U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Buchanan. I wish we could have built you a palace, but we did the most with the resources we had and we built you a school house that will stand with you.

The 94th Training Division was activated in 1918. It is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and as part of it's celebration, it gets a new training center.

“This building and I have a long history. I received my commission from ROTC here. I met my wife when she was teaching here, and now I'm the commander of the 94th Training Division,” said Brig. Gen. Héctor López, commanding general of the 94th Training Division (FS).

“One of the courses that is and will be taught here is 92M, mortuary affairs,” said Maj. Gen. Bruce E. Hackett, commander of the 80th Training Command. “Mortuary affairs serves the soldiers and the families of the fallen with dignity and respect.” Here they will teach new soldiers to continue that high standard that honors the fallen.
