RAF MILDENHALL, England – Senior leaders from the career enlisted aviator career field made a stop here, Feb. 8, 2018, during a roadshow.
Briefings were held to discuss career enlisted aviator retention issues and incentives, one-on-one sessions with CEA Airmen, and cross training for those interested in joining the CEA career field.
“One of the reasons we’re here is to give them some insight into some of the programs we’re doing to help them out and keep retention up. Our goal is to educate them on our manning ratios and percentages across the Air Force,” said Chief Master Sgt. Eric Rigby, Headquarters Air Force, Pentagon, career enlisted aviator career field manager.
Although the CEA career fields are critically manned, the team discussed incentives that are being introduced to help curb declining retention rates.
“The roadshow was beneficial to me because all the chiefs who spoke gave me accurate information about upcoming plans for my career field, and also how the assignment process works for my Air Force specialty code,” said Senior Airman Derek Peifer, 351st Air Refueling Squadron boom operator.
The day concluded with Chief Master Sgt. Erick Fierro, Headquarters Air Force, Pentagon, career enlisted aviator training manager, conducting a briefing for those interested in cross training into the career field.
“The biggest takeaway I got from this roadshow was how easy it is for people interested in going into one of the enlisted aviation career fields,” Peifer said. “It seems most Airmen do not realize and understand this, and I think it should be advertised more, especially since boom operators are undermanned right now.”
