An eerie silence came over the compound as Marines with 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group prepared to breach a compound as part of a field training exercise at Camp Geiger, NC Jan. 25, 2018.
The battalion conducted a field exercise to ensure Marines are well prepared and equipped for anything they may encounter throughout their careers, such as deployments and multi-national training exercises.
“This training is conducted at least twice a month,” said Cpl. Cristian Ramirez, a fire team leader with 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group. “We like to keep the Marines ready at a moment’s notice and the training we are conducting now assists in preparing us for that.”
During the training exercise, Marines partook in detainee handling and escorting, rehearsed proper room clearing techniques for site exploitation, and participated in a shotgun range.
“This training and qualification is very essential to the mission,” said Lance Cpl. James Juarez, a Marine with 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group. “A lot of our job focuses on site exploitation, which entails going into houses and compounds to search for intelligence, and to do this we need to safely clear those areas to get that information.”
The battalion’s mission is to conduct law and order operations in order to enhance the security environment and promote the rule of law in support of Marine Air Ground Task Force operations. This training provides the Marines tools to support their overall mission and ensure the safety of those around them.
