    21st TSC recognizes 87 years of dedicated service

    21st Theater Sustainment Command

    KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – The 21st Theater Sustainment Command wished farewell to four retiring service members after a combined 87 years of service, during a retirement ceremony, Jan. 26, at Daenner Kaserne.

    Retirees were Sgt. Maj. Stephen McDermid, 21st TSC Inspector General sergeant major, with 25 years of service. McDermid ended his military career with a master’s degree in international management, a Bronze Star and an Army Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

    Staff Sgt. Victor Valdez, 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, ended his career while pursuing his associate’s degree in finance. Valdez is a recipient of the Afghanistan Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with four knots, and the Naval Unit Commendation Ribbon. Valdez was previously a member of the United States Marine Corps.

    Staff Sgt. Gerardo Cordero, 51st Composite Transportation Company, served 21 years. Cordero ended his military career in pursuit of his bachelor's degree in homeland security, and is a recipient of the Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

    Staff Sgt. Wilbur Turgeon, mortuary affairs non-commissioned officer for HHC 16th Special Troops Battalion, ended his military career with a certification in autobody repair. He is a recipient of the NATO medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters.

    The ceremonies official party included Col. William Galbraith, 21st TSC deputy commanding officer and Command Sgt. Maj. Defarreo Poole, 21st Special Troops Battalion senior enlisted advisor.

    “Today is about celebrating the military careers of four outstanding Soldiers and the appreciation of their family members who have also served and made countless sacrifices,” Galbraith said.

    The family members of the retirees watched has their Soldiers were presented with the 21st TSC’s unit coin and retirement certificates signed by Maj. Gen. Steven A. Shapiro, 21st TSC commanding general and Command Sgt. Maj. Alberto Delgado, 21st TSC senior enlisted advisor.
