Command Sgt. Maj. Priscilla Davis became the U.S. Army 5th Medical Recruiting Battalion (MRB) senior enlisted leader in a change of responsibility ceremony Jan. 19 at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel in downtown San Antonio.
Davis, formerly the senior operations NCO with the 3rd MRB in Fort Knox, Ky., said she welcomes the challenges of leading 5th MRB alongside battalion commander, Lt. Col. Michael Peacock, and continuing it’s “rich history of great leadership.” She also thanked those from her previous assignments for their roles in preparing her for the task she now faces.
“It is important to maintain continuity, but it’s just as important to welcome change,” said Davis. “I’ll be a 360-degrees leader: I will lead south to my Soldiers under my care; I will lead north by influencing those with authority over me; I will lead east and west, impacting my peers; but most importantly I will stay humble, yet vigilant, in maintaining my own compass needle centered.”
Outgoing senior enlisted leader, Command Sgt. Maj. Jesse Castellano, moves on to his next assignment as the senior enlisted leader of the U.S. Army Medical Recruiting Brigade in Fort Knox, Ky. He thanked the battalion’s Soldiers and civilians for their support in making his tenure successful, citing their professionalism and commitment to the mission. In Davis, Castellano believes the battalion will find continued success.
“CSM Davis brings a wealth of Army Medical Department knowledge and experience to the team,” said Castellano. “CSM Davis, along with Lt. Col. Peacock, will continue to move the battalion forward and to new heights. I wish the both of you the very best.”
For Peacock, who could not play his customary role in the ceremony due to an illness that kept him sick in quarters the entire week, it was important to convey what Castellano has meant to both him and the unit. In an emailed letter to the battalion, Peacock called it “devastating” to not be able to publicly recognize his Command Team partner of nearly two years, but he expressed his appreciation in no uncertain terms when he said about Castellano, “He is an NCO of integrity who frequently weighs our well-being with the needs of the Army, and does the right thing. Most of you have no idea the extents to which he advocates for recruiters and leaders.
“I can think of no finer example of the professional 79R NCO. I have been so very proud of having him on my Command Team, and could not have asked for a finer trainer, coach, advocate or friend in our 18-month journey leading the Titan Battalion.”
