The United Services Organization (USO) held a meet and greet event with Gabrielle “Gabby” Douglas at the Mokapu Mall, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Jan. 14, 2018.
“For over 75 years the USO has been conducting tours to help improve a positive influence for our troops that are away from home,” Said Alesha Burkeen, the area operations officer for USO Hawaii.
This event was the final stop in the USO tour where Douglas met with Service members and their families.
“This tour is an opportunity for celebrities such as Douglas to help raise morale for our Service members with meet and greets across military installations,” Burkeen said. “We began this tour in Guam and then visited other bases here on the island.”
She said these tours are a strong message to the men and women in the armed services that the USO cares about them and their families.
“This tour has been an amazing journey and an amazing experience,” Douglas said. “I’ve met so many of my fans.”
Douglas posed for photos, handed out autographs and talked to her fans and their families.
“I am always ecstatic about meeting my young fans, their moms and dads,” Douglas said. “I’m always happy to answer questions and give advice to budding gymnasts. I always tell them, ‘Be the best you can be and go for it 100%.’”
