SUNRISE, Fla. Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Miami held a change of command ceremony at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida, Jan. 12. Cmdr. Jason Ketelsen was relieved by Cmdr. Delmy Robinson as the commanding officer of NRD Miami in a ceremony attended by several distinguished visitors, guests and crew.

Commander, Navy Recruiting District East Commodore, Capt. William Cox, Jr. was the guest speaker during the ceremony and presented Ketelsen with a Meritorious Service Medal. He also discussed the commander’s impact during his time at NRD Miami.

"Skipper Ketelsen has every reason to look back on his time in command, his ‘dash’, and be as proud as a commanding officer can be,” said Cox. “He has had to deal with and overcome numerous challenges, gaps in key leadership positions, changes in recruiting practices/policy, natural disasters and changes in the recruiting environment as a whole."

Ketelsen and his Sailors, whom he affectionately refers to as ‘team paradise’, recently dealt with and overcame the struggles of evacuating an entire division due to Hurricane Irma. He attributed his success at NRD Miami to the undying efforts of his Sailors and the support he continuously received from Commander, Navy Recruiting Command.
“Commodore, thank you for your support and genuine appreciation of Navy Recruiting District Miami. NRD Miami is in good hands and is standing by to support the Navy’s recruiting mission,” said Ketelsen. “They will continue to make you proud.”

Ketelsen also retired during the ceremony after 20 years of naval service.

Cmdr. Delmy Robinson, previously the executive officer of NRD Miami, rendered an inspiring speech emphasizing the significance of the recruiting mission and her commitment to Sailors and families.
“Team Paradise, I am humbled and most honored for having the privilege of being your commanding officer,” said Robinson. “You have surpassed all expectations, dealt with adversity with grace and incredible resiliency. I am deeply committed to your welfare and professional growth. I will continue to put you and your families first,” Robinson added. “Eighteen years ago, a recruiter changed my life forever and that is exactly what you do each and every day,” she added. “You change lives, and you shape the very future of our great Navy. Our mission is noble. Our mission is purposeful. Always remember that we do not just make a living, we make a difference!”

Robinson, a native of Honduras, graduated from the University of New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has earned three master degrees through Navy education programs. She attended officer candidate school and earned her commission as an ensign in the supply corps in 1999.

Prior to joining NRD Miami as the executive officer in 2016, Robinson served at the Navy Manpower Analysis Center as the workforce classification department head, responsible for the workforce classification of officers and enlisted, Navy-wide.
