The 724th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron services section provides for the dining, recreation and gym facilities for the recently built Nigerien Air Base 201 in Agadez, Niger.

Within the new section of Nigerien Air Base 201, the services section maintains a larger recreation center, dining facility, and gym for deployed service members and contractors.

“It’s hard enough being deployed away from your loved ones for months at a time,” said Senior Master Sgt. Taran Sanger, 724th EABS services superintendent. “It’s our job to make sure everyone is fed, has proper facilities to stay physically fit and has a place to unwind at the end of the day.”

Services is also responsible for lodging, mortuary affairs, protocol and augments other sections if need be.

“Since moving to our new location, we are much more efficient at everything we do,” said Senior Airman Kristen Yates, 724th EABS services journeyman. “We are using bigger facilities with enough manpower to get the job done.”

All the facilities managed by services stays open 24 hours a day for the convenience of the service members and contractors deployed in the harsh environment.

“We are not stretched thin since we were able to hire local contractors to help with the dining facility,” said Sanger. “Those guys bust their butts every day to make sure our people are fed and have a clean facility to come to every day.”

Services ensures the cleanliness of their facilities, despite hot temperatures, dust storms and local wildlife providing a daily challenge.

“We deal with everything from it being 100 degrees or more every day, to venomous wildlife, to sand getting into the tents and equipment,” said Sanger. “But we make it work and do our best to keep our environment as care free as possible, even if we are in a remote location.”
