101st Division Sustainment Brigade Public Affairs

Soldiers, Families, and friends of the 716th Military Police Battalion "Peacekeepers," 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Sustainment Brigade, 101st Abn. Div. gathered, Oct. 26, to honor and memorialize a fallen Peacekeeper, here.
Lt. Col. S. Joel Schuldt and Command Sgt. Maj. Jose F. Shorey, command team for 716th MP Bn., dedicated the battalion’s field to Sgt. Sean R. Grilley, who was fatally wounded under fire while attempting to rescue a fellow Soldier on Oct. 16, 2003 in Karbala, Iraq.
During the dedication ceremony, Grilley’s mother, Susan Tyjewski, unveiled the new sign for field, which had engraved Grilley Field.
According to Schuldt, the sign is a reminder of Grilley's commitment to duty and an example for all Soldiers.
“Those who truly believe we are in a time of no real heroes simply do not know where to look,” said Schuldt. “Sgt. Grilley was a Soldier always ready, always willing, and eager to say ‘send me.’”
Second Lt. Alex Polk, a platoon leader with 218th Military Police Company and who attended the ceremony, said it’s important to acknowledge those Soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
“Coming together and honoring someone who made the ultimate sacrifice, probably without even giving it a second thought, really makes a point,” explained Polk. “You begin to understand what people mean when they talk about [the battalion’s] legacy.”
