Airmen recognize Airmen in Peer to Peer program

Story by Staff Sgt. Heather Heiney

    403rd Wing Public Affairs

The 403rd Wing has revived an old program that provides an opportunity for Airmen to recognize one another for their contribution to the wing -- the Peer to Peer program.

This program highlights individuals in the wing who go above and beyond and are recognized by their peers. The Peer to Peer committee reviews the nominations and selects individuals for recognition.

The difference between a unit award and a peer-to-peer award is that peer-to-peer awards aren’t submitted by leadership, they can be submitted by anyone who wants to recognize another individual for outstanding leadership, mentorship, performance or contributions to their career and life.

Once a selection has been made, the person who made the nomination will present a special Peer to Peer coin to the nominee.

“I think this is a fantastic program because it is an avenue for our Airmen to show their appreciation to one another for outstanding support provided to enhance 403rd Wing mission effectiveness,” said Col. Robert Stanton, 403rd Wing vice commander and Human Resources Development Council chairman. “In upper leadership we don’t always see all the great work that goes on day to day and adds up, so this is another way for those Airmen to get recognized.”

Staff Sgt. Ashley Bever, HRDC vice-chair said that a good candidate goes above and beyond, shows service before self, mentors and leads Airmen to do the right thing and boosts morale.

“The Peer to Peer program shows Airmen that what they do really counts and recognizes Airman for leading the way in a very positive manner,” Bever said.

Nominations are accepted throughout the year, but coins will be presented at HRDC meetings, which take place at 1 p.m. Sunday of every other unit training assembly.

“I would like to encourage everyone to take the time over this next year and nominate someone who has gone above and beyond what their job asks of them,” Stanton said.

Airmen who would like to nominate someone for Peer to Peer recognition should email Bever at ashley.bever.1@us.af.mil with the name of the nominee and why that person is being nominated.
