One hundred ninety-one Commandos graduated from advanced special operations courses during a ceremony at the Afghan National Army Special Operations Command School of Excellence, Camp Commando, Kabul, Afghanistan, Dec. 14, 2017. The Commandos will employ their skills immediately as they join their assigned Special Operation Kandaks (Battalions).

ANASOC SOE specialty courses begin following the completion of each Commando Qualification Course. Specialty course students are selected for advanced training based on their assigned duty position and performance during the Commando Qualification Course.

The six-week specialty courses include the following offerings: reconnaissance, sniper, mortars, forward observer and fire direction control, engineering and demolitions, communications, and sustainment operations.

Commando Combat Medics spend an additional two weeks at Camp Commando receiving advanced medical instruction before embarking on a four-week clinical rotation at Kandahar Regional Hospital.

The investment that ANASOC places on assessment, selection and specialty training of its Commandos has paid dividends on the battlefield. In his Nov. 28 remarks to the Pentagon Press Corps, Gen. John Nicolson, NATO Resolute Support commander stated, “They are the most feared and respected force in Afghanistan today and they're the best special operations force in the region.”

After graduating 1,056 Commandos from the 21st Commando Qualification Course on Dec. 6, the SOE will start three Commando Qualification Courses in the next six weeks allowing ANASOC to field an additional 4,000 Commandos by spring 2018.
