The Afghan National Army Special Operations Command visited the Afghan Women's Education Center near Camp Commando, Kabul, Afghanistan, Dec. 13, 2017, as part of the Commando’s enduring community outreach program. Families of fallen Commandos along with abused and widowed Afghan women and their children reside at the AWEC.

On this day, the Commandos visited the center’s orphanage while the adult women attended a local vocational school. The 250 children and young adults in attendance received 500 donated children's books, large quantities of reading workbooks, calculators, binder paper, pens, pencils, construction paper, and more than 350 lbs. of crayons. Approximately 3,000 lbs. of flour, rice, oil, and blankets were also provided to the center.

Education of its residents is a top priority of the AWEC. The level of academic rigor the women and children receive meets or exceeds local standards. As a result, a majority of the AWEC young adults that graduate from the program attend college.
