Commandos fight Taliban, seize more than $200K of heroin in Helmand
Commandos from Afghan’s 7th Special Operations Kandak seized 14 kg of heroin valued between $224,000 to $294,000 during an offensive operation in Nahr-e-Saraj district, Helmand province, Afghanistan, Dec. 7-8, 2017. After defeating six Taliban fighters, the Commandos captured six additional insurgents and their supplies.
In addition to the heroin, the Commandos also seized Taliban vehicles modified to mount automatic weapons, a sniper rifle with scope, and a RPG.
The Afghan National Army Special Operations Command is doubling the size of the Commandos. One thousand fifty-six Afghan soldiers graduated from the 21st Commando Qualification Course at Camp Commando, Kabul, Dec. 6.
ANASOC’s Commandos and Special Forces, along with the General Command of Police Special Units and the Special Mission Wing, form the cornerstone for the Afghan 2020 Road Map. The Road Map is the Afghan government’s plan to provide the Afghan people enhanced security and stability.
