Members of Team Seymour and the Goldsboro community baked and donated cookies for the event. Cookie collection stations decorated as sleighs were placed throughout the base, where volunteers donated homemade cookies.
The cookies were packaged and delivered Dec. 4, 2017. A group of 45 volunteers assembled each package with cookies, holiday candies and a holiday card.
“Cookies were donated by individuals and groups across our entire Team Seymour and Goldsboro community family,” said Kim Cooper, Airmen Cookie Drive chair. “The holiday cards that accompanied the cookies were created and donated by community schools and church children.”
This year’s event totaled more than 1,000 dozen cookies, which were delivered to the base’s 647 dorm residents. The vast amount of donations allowed for cookies to not only be delivered to the dorm residents, but to workplaces throughout the base as well.
After the cookies were assembled, Team Seymour’s first sergeants delivered the bundles to the Airmen dorm residents.
“The OSCS Airmen Cookie Drive is just one way the local community and the Seymour Johnson community shows their appreciation for what our Airmen do day in, day out and the sacrifices they make,” said Master Sgt. Justin Pollmann, 4th Comptroller Squadron first sergeant. “Not all of the Airmen will be able to go home to spend time with their families and for many, this may be their first holiday season away from home.”
The cookie drive aimed to build morale and provide holiday cheer to dorm residents during the holiday season, added Pollmann.
“It makes me feel pretty good inside knowing that people take time out of their day to think about us especially during the holidays,” said Airman 1st Class Emily Harnois, 4th Component Maintenance Squadron hydraulics technician. “It gives us that home away from home feeling.”
Harnois added, she feels special receiving cookies from the drive and appreciates all who donated.
“It was an amazing team effort by all of Team Seymour and Goldsboro friends,” said Cooper. “We want all the Airmen to know that we are thinking of and appreciate them.”
