1st Lt. Delaney T. Bourlakov, base adjutant, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, will represent the command at the Third Annual HITT Competition in Camp Pendleton, California, Aug. 27 – Sept. 1.

In preparation for the competition, Bourlakov changed her tactics to include more field and cardio training time.

“I worked out in boots and utes three times a week, practiced techniques with lifting the dummy, increased my ammunition can lifts, pull-ups in boots and Olympic lifts,” she said. “If I am not in boots, I am increasing my cardio with long runs, swimming and biking around the base.

According to Bourlakov, this year's biggest addition to the competition is the “Frog."

“The Frog is a full-body workout targeting core and squad strength as you have to push and crunch to move across the field,” she said. “Just like with most difficult workouts, the frog is all about technique. I have adopted the "push and smash" method, which helps me stride across the field at maximum speed with minimum pushes.

“I have a feeling I am going to see a lot more of the frog and the dummy this year,” she said.

Bourlakov revealed this year’s event description is very limited and the events have been a lot more secretive.

“However, based on what I could take away, we will be having another water event, this time in the ocean; another paintball competition; several events on the field where the frog will most likely come into play; and the newest addition, the hill run,” she added.

Bourlakov recalled her 2016 competition experience being “like nothing I had ever seen before.”

“It was a combination of strength, cardio, endurance, speed and agility with two events a day,” she said. “From an extended Obstacle Course, to getting shot with paintballs trying to fireman's carry a 120-pound dummy, to jumping in the pool in boots and utes, it challenged every part of my physical and mental strength.”

Bourlakov credits Wayne Jordan, HITT Instructor, and Whitney Hendrix, lead instructor, both with Marine Corps Community Services, MCLB Albany, for helping her properly prepare for this year’s completion.

“They have assisted me every step of the way (to include) creating workout routines and practicing techniques,” she said. “There is no way I could have come this far without them!”

Jordan has been assisting Bourlakov in preparing for the HITT Competition for the last two years.

“We are very proud to have 1st Lt. Delaney Bourlakov compete in the High Intensity Tactical Training Tactical Athlete Competition for the second year in a row,” Jordan said. “She did a fantastic job last year representing MCLB Albany.

“She is much stronger and faster this year going into the competition and will be one of the top athletes again,” he said.

Bourlakov said she looks forward to the competition and is excited and honored to represent MCLB Base Albany.
