SAN ANTONIO – (Dec. 2, 2017) To maintain unity, teamwork, and camaraderie amongst future Sailors, Navy Recruiting District San Antonio held a Mega Delay Entry Program (DEP) Field Meet on the football field of Winston Churchill High School.
The Navy’s DEP is a program whereby individuals enlisting into the naval service participate by attending mandatory meetings which are designed to help them get ready for recruit training.
More than 250 future Sailors from Navy Recruiting Stations Mercado, Hollywood Park, De Zavala, Ingram, Northeast, Southeast, and South San Antonio, along with their recruiters and headquarters personnel participated.
Field events consisted of pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, drill, tug-of-war, relay race, and the Sailor’s Creed competition.
“These types of events help build teamwork,” said Aircrew Survival Equipmentman 1st Class Alejandro Medellin from Laredo, Texas, a recruiter assigned to NRS Mercado. “DEP meetings provide that time for recruiters to engage with future Sailors and prepare them for recruiting training at Recruiter Training Command, Great Lakes.”
According to Medellin, DEP meetings are held monthly, while Mega DEP meetings are conducted quarterly.
Medellin was extremely proud at the event’s conclusion as future Sailors from his NRS were announced as the Mega DEP Champions.
“This means we, as recruiters, are doing a great job by motivating our future Sailors and preparing them physically and mentality for boot camp.”
