May ensures the accuracy of aircraft forms and technical orders while maintaining, servicing and troubleshooting the KC-135 Stratotanker. He is also responsible for towing, refueling and running engines.

"Staff Sgt. May is an asset to our FCC program,” said 2nd Lt. Daniel Browitt, 22nd AMXS unit assistant officer in charge. “His positive attitude, work ethic and attention to detail are unmatched. We're lucky to have him on our team."

The Ringgold, Georgia, native joined the Air Force in October 2013 and arrived at McConnell in March 2014.

What are the best parts about your job?

The best part of my job is that it lets me contribute to the Air Force as a whole. Being a KC-135 crew chief allows me to be part of everything including transports, fire missions and medical evacuations. The aircraft lets me see the world in a crazy way with each mission I am given, which was one of my dreams since I joined. There is something new and exciting every day, which keeps everything fun.

How do you feel you contribute to the mission?

I contribute to the mission by training all of our new crew chiefs on their duties, making sure they do it safely and by the book. While I am deployed I use my KC-135 expertise to help my fellow active, guardsman and reservist Airmen continue pushing the gas for the constant sorties for the area of responsibility. On one of our missions, I contributed by assisting Army rangers in maneuvers that ensure the most satisfactory training.

What are the keys to success in your Air Force career?

Having leadership, mentors and supervisors that care about my job performance as well as my personal well-being ensure that I am able to be successfully progress through my career.

What is one goal that you have already accomplished or would like to accomplish during your Air Force career?

I have already been able to complete two goals I set out to achieve. I received senior airman below the zone and I made staff sergeant my first time testing. My next focus is to complete my Community College of the Air Force degree then move forward to a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
