2nd Lt. Marcel Lindsey, 661st Military Police Detachment, was the officer in charge of planning and executing Family Day.
“It’s an event organized to thank the soldiers for all their hard work and effort during the year,” said Lindsey. “It’s held at this time of year so that we can all bring in the New Year together.”
Usually held annually in December, it is a one-day event for VING members to attend. This year’s Family Fun Day was a bit special, as it took place after the eventful 2017 hurricane season, including Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, two category 5 hurricanes that devastated many islands in the Caribbean.
“I feel it went pretty well, considering we are still as a territory recovering from Hurricane’s Irma and Maria,” said Lindsey.
A wide variety of activities were held at Family Fun Day including a Crucian spelling bee, dominoes, team sudoku, a hot dog eating contest, basketball games, lighting of a Christmas Tree and much more.
Lindsey wishes to continue planning more family-oriented events for the VING in the future.
“Next year will be bigger and better,” said Lindsey. “Just be ready for the end of 2018.”
