ASYMCA – Camp Pendleton was presented a $150,000 grant intended to increase the number of employees at care centers like the Fisher center here, allowing staff members to receive more training in certain areas relating to child care, and to enhance the curriculum which is currently provided to the children while they are under the supervision of ASYMCA care centers.

“The Fisher Children’s Center helps to reduce family stress and build family resiliency,” said Christopher Keane, Executive Director for ASYMCA – Camp Pendleton. “It gives that spouse or loved one a little bit of a rest so that they can keep their family together and their own mind at ease.”

Centers like the Fisher Children’s Center provided by the ASYMCA prioritize alleviating some of the issues those military spouses and family members go through on a daily basis by offering numerous programs and events to benefit them.

“The child care that’s provided to our military families is instrumental to the continued success of the [I Marine Expeditionary Force],” said Sgt. Maj. Julio E. Meza, Marine Corps Installations – West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton sergeant major. “It’s all tied together, and this grant is going to go a long way in helping us continue that mission.”

As part of the open house and art exhibit, the staff decorated the building with Christmas-themed decorations and arts-ands-crafts made by the children of the center.

“The children did their own art show by classroom and took a lot of pride in displaying [their art],” said Keane. “They took pride in decorating the facility that is an extension of their own living room; their home away from home, where we provide the childcare for their family.”
