American Association for the Advancement of Science singles out Navy scientist as newest Fellow

SAN DIEGO — Dr. Stuart H. Rubin, a scientist at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific), whose “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished,” has been selected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Rubin will be officially inducted as an AAAS Fellow on Feb. 17, 2018.

Dr. Rubin is being honored for distinguished contributions to the field of intelligent systems, particularly for the development of computational creativity for improving the quality of life and global economics. Rubin has over 300 publications and has authored or co-authored six books and 10 book chapters. Election to AAAS Fellow status is the highest professional distinction accorded academic authors who have made significant contributions to society.

Rubin, who holds master’s degrees in both systems engineering and computer science, and holds a doctorate in computer science, developed, published, and is applying his mathematical “theory of randomization” to computer science, which laid the foundation for computational creativity and machine learning – as noted by Rutgers University and first demonstrated by his KASERs. Two decades ago he founded the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Information Reuse and Integration Conference, and he chairs the IEEE technical committee on Knowledge Acquisition in Intelligent Systems. While the majority of his innovative publications are focused on artificial intelligence and knowledge-discovery systems, Rubin, an American Chemical Society (ACS) award winner, has developed a plausible-reasoning theory and applied it to PEM fuel-cell design. This technology is being incorporated into the New Jersey Genesis car. Its borohydride fuel is recyclable, safer than gasoline, and totally non-polluting.
