General Stanford Elementary School students experienced the military lifestyle first-hand during “Heroes Week” at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., Nov. 13-17, 2017.
The designated week honors U.S. service members, educates students on military culture and celebrates what it means to be a military family.
Students had the opportunity to interact with Fort Eustis Soldiers, learn about different military vehicles and even had the chance to perform a physical training test.
Throughout the week, the school encouraged students to dress-up according to themes that empowered them to follow their dreams. On Monday, students wore capes on “Cape-able day” and on Tuesday, they “Dressed As [Their] Future Self.”
On the final day of Heroes Week, U.S. Army Soldiers and first responders spoke to students about their importance in the community, how they serve community members and why they do what they do. Emergency and military vehicles, such as cargo vehicles, fire trucks, helicopters and military police cars were also on display for students to learn about.
Through this event, organizers hope the week of learning about the military lifestyle and interacting with service members may help develop future generations of “heroes.”
