JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The Centralized Credentials and Privileging Directorate of the U.S. Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (CCPD BUMED), in coordination with the local Knights of Columbus Council in Fleming Island, Florida, helped collect supplies for families affected by Hurricane Irma in early October.

In total, the group gathered more than 300 pounds of canned goods, toiletries and undergarments.

Communities affected by this season’s hurricanes continue to recover from back-to-back disasters, and the CCPD BUMED team is no exception. As families in the area rebuild, some struggled to obtain basic necessities like undergarments and water.

Despite several members of the 24-person staff suffering damage to their own homes, the CCPD BUMED team donated more than 300 pounds of food and supplies to their community.

“The generosity of the entire CCPD team truly made this effort possible,” said Scott Olivolo, of CCPD BUMED.

Olivolo’s son, pictured above, was among some of the staff’s family members who helped organize collection boxes, and deliver supplies to the central collection point at Sacred Heart Church.

Ron Warner, Grand Knight for the local Knights of Columbus Council #11220, said he was grateful for CCPD BUMED’s support.

“It is amazing what local groups can do for people in need, right here in our own backyard, when we work together,” Warner said. “As a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer and a Knight, I am grateful to the fine folks at CCPD BUMED for joining us in this effort.”
