Chambersburg, Pa. – Recently, two of Letterkenny Munitions Center’s (LEMC) Global Mobile Maintenance Teams performed separate maintenance missions maintaining stockpile reliability in support of U.S. Army and U.S. Navy readiness requirements.
The Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Family of Munitions (MFOM) mobile maintenance team, consisting of both LEMC technicians and Precision Fire Rocket and Missile Systems Project Office personnel, performed testing, inspection, depot, and field-level maintenance overseas to Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) Rockets and Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS). In addition to this year’s test and inspection requirements, the team also performed software updates in the field to the MFOM Common Test Devices (MCTD), the field test set for MFOM.
“Our mobile maintenance teams save the Army substantial transportation costs and keep our Warfighters equipped with the most reliable munitions,” said Joshua Shaul, Electronics Equipment Mechanic Leader, LEMC.
LEMC’s mobile repair efforts deliver a significant cost avoidance and time savings to the U.S. Army while increasing unit readiness by performing maintenance activities on location worldwide. LEMC’s onsite support improves asset readiness, prevents unnecessary down time, significantly reduces transportation expenses, and provides capability to ensure operational effectiveness of military options.
While the MFOM team supported requirements overseas, LEMC’s Joint Missile Systems Mobile Maintenance Team traveled the east coast stateside in support of the U.S. Navy. LEMC technicians tested, inspected, and upgraded software in Anti-Radiation Missiles (ARM) onsite, satisfying the Navy’s readiness requirements while creating both time and cost savings for the service.
These expeditions were just the latest requirements for mobile maintenance generated from the U.S. military. LEMC regularly sends teams forward to conduct missile testing, inspection, and maintenance to fulfill U.S. military readiness requirements.

Jeffrey Ignatowski, Commander, LEMC. “We will continue to push the operational reach of our capability to wherever it can deliver the biggest impact to readiness for commanders.”
In 2016, LEMC was designated as the Army’s Center of Industrial and Technical Excellent for Army Tactical Missile Systems; Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems; and Low-Cost, Reduced-Range, Practice-Rocket Missile Maintenance by the Secretary of the Army.
LEMC is located on Letterkenny Army Depot and is a Government-Owned, Government-Operated installation. LEMC conducts regional and global distribution of munitions, provides missile maintenance, and conducts demilitarization of munitions for the U.S. Army in support of Joint Forces and international partner nations.
