    15th Marine Expeditionary Unit

U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS -- The Marine Corps Forces Central Command Commander, Lt. Gen. William Beydler visited Marines and Sailors of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and USS America (LHA 6), on the Marine Corps Birthday, Nov. 10, 2017.

The formation began with a large war-cry as Beydler wished the Marines and Sailors of the MEU a happy birthday, celebrating 242 years of service.

"I need you to be ready for anything that comes up," said Beydler as he
addressed the Marines and Sailors aboard America's flightdeck. "There's a
lot going on around the globe and there's a lot going on in this region. Be
    ready."

Beydler reinforced the mission of the MEU as the Nation's premier crisis
    response force.

"Marines in the region are punching above their weight, we are a very small force in terms of the total lay out of service members in the Middle East," Beydler relayed to the Marines and Sailors as he spoke about missions Marines are conducting in the fight against terrorism.

From Iraq, Syria, to Afghanistan -- Marines are doing great work, building
relationships, and enabling security forces to excel and achieve their aim,
    explained Beydler.

Following his remarks, Lt. Gen. Beydler awarded a Marine and Navy Corpsman assigned to the 15th MEU, a certificate of commendation and a MARCENT coin for outstanding performance since the deployment began.

"It's a dark world to be in if you're ISIS, they're either going to surrender or die," said Beydler during a question and answer session at the conclusion of his remarks and the award ceremony. "The MEU has to be ready to respond for all [countries] in this region."

Before Beydler turned the formation back over to Col. Joseph Clearfield, the 15th MEU commanding officer, he explained how pleased he was to be with Marines and Sailors of the 15th MEU and USS America on the 10th of November.

"Sgt. Maj. Thurber and I couldn't be any more proud to be with you here
today," Beydler said. "Two-hundred and forty-two years of warfighting and operational excellence; celebrating today to be on the mighty warship USS America with this mighty [Marine Air-Ground Task Force] team, I couldn't be more pleased."
