FORT STEWART, Ga. – Soldiers, leaders and Family Members with the 3rd Infantry Division participated in a family fun day at Newman Field on Fort Stewart, Georgia, Nov. 14.

The event was one of many featured during the division’s annual Marne Week. This year’s Marne Week celebrated the storied division’s 100th birthday.

Newman field was transformed into a playground equipped with several bounce houses, music and a child-friendly obstacle course.

Jenga, corn hole and washer tosses were some of the games available for Family Members of all ages to enjoy. Fort Stewart emergency services provided fire trucks and police vehicles for static displays.

Sgt. 1st Class Christopher D. Hardin, operations noncommissioned in charge of the 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, said he enjoyed coordinating the event.

“The intent was to get the families together, take a break and have a little fun,” said Hardin. “The kids are having a great time and there was a little competition thrown in between the Soldiers.”

Hardin expressed how important it was to commemorate the 3rd Infantry Division and its incredible contributions to the armed forces.

“Marne Week is a chance for us Soldiers to celebrate the division as a whole,” said Hardin. “With all of its deep-rooted history, it serves an opportunity for us Marne Soldiers today to honor past Marne Soldiers and continue the legacy.”

Staff Sgt. Shairese A. Jerry, 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division arrived to her unit just one month ago. She said she has felt a warm welcome from 2ABCT, and unique events such as the family fun day has solidified her belief that Fort Stewart is a great place for Families.

“I have had such a great experience here so far,” said Jerry. “My children are having a great time today and I appreciate any extra time I can have with them.”

Hardin stressed how imperative it was to make 3rd ID families know they have served and continue to serve an important role in the division’s success.

“We support ourselves, we support each other, and we’re a tight-knit community in the Marne division,” said Hardin.
