The Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team preformed and assisted with the wreath laying ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City Nov. 9, 2017.
The wreath laying ceremony is a part of an annual salute to service Veterans Day tribute.
Before the ceremony began, a crowd slowly formed as people took notice of Air Force band members and the Air Force Drill Team, dressed in their ceremonial blues.
Sarah Williams was visiting New York when she noticed the Airmen. She stopped to watch and film with her phone.
“My daddy was a World War II veteran and my brother-in-law was a Vietnam veteran,” Williams said. “I wanted to get a little of the performance so I could share it with my family.”
The Air Force Drill Team assisted key-note speaker and wreath layer Gen. Carlton D. Everhart II, commander of Air Mobility Command, with the ceremonial proceedings.
The band performed a selection of music and the team performed a 12-man drill following the wreath-laying by Everhart.
Retired Army Sgt. Major Christopher Kurinec, a former special operations soldier awarded the purple heart and multiple medals for valor, was in attendance.
“I loved the performance. The guys looked sharp, and I know a cold day is the worst day to do that stuff, but they were sharp—they were good”, said Kurinec.
The Air Force Honor Guard last attended the tribute in 2015.
The drill team performed at memorial as part of a weeklong trip to the city culminating in the Veterans Day parade in Manhattan and a New York Knicks basketball game performance on Saturday night.
