Marines of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and their families attended a “Harvest Festival” at Laurel Bay, October 18.
The “Harvest Festival” was organized by Marine Corps Community Services to build camaraderie as well as promote a family atmosphere for the families aboard the Tri-Command.
“We’ve been pretty active in trying to get word out for this event,” Said Lt. Col. Jeffrey S. Pelt, the Commanding Officer of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron. “Events like this festival bring everyone together as a family and make us thankful for all of the services that MCCS have to offer.”
Marines from H&HS were on hand to help at the festival all day. The Marines arrived in the morning to help set up booths and tents for a 5:30 p.m. start and stayed to help work the event as well as take down everything after it was over.
“H&HS has helped out tremendously all day,” said Ashely Utsey, the school age care director for MCCS South Carolina. “We couldn’t be anymore grateful for their help.”
The “Harvest Festival” was open to all eligible members of the Tri-Command and their families. Children dressed up and partook in several different activities from bowling and skee-ball, to picking up a pumpkin in a pumpkin patch and decorating it at one of the activity booths.
“We were worried about what our turnout would be like, with this being our first time hosting an event like this,” said Utsey. “We were very pleasantly surprised and thankful for the attendance.”
The MCCS has many more events scheduled in the upcoming future for Marines and their families including Halloween parties aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot and MCAS Beaufort.
“Doing things for our community and bringing everyone together is what events like this are all about,” said Pelt. “We look forward to hosting more interactive and fun events like this in the future.”
