Marines of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron and their families took part in a Thanksgiving Feast aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, Nov 2.
The feast was held by the squadron to foster unit cohesion and camaraderie as well as to celebrate the upcoming holiday season.
“I think events like this always keep Marines motivated,” said Pfc. Bryan Ross, an ordnance technician with H&HS. “My entire shop is walking around and having a good time and socializing with everyone else from around the squadron. It really goes to show that this squadron really is like a big happy family.”
Marines cooked and prepared food throughout the morning in preparation for the feast. Marines of the squadron also took part in a potluck and brought dozens of homemade dishes with everything ranging from turkey and ham, deviled eggs, collard greens, as well as a whole table full of different desserts.
“I know Marines came in to the chapel extra early to start preparing all of this great food for our feast today,” said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Pelt the Commanding Officer of H&HS. “Without the hard work and dedication of our Marines, pulling off an event of this magnitude would not have been possible.”
On top of serving food and refreshments for the feast, the event also had a live DJ who provided music for everyone, bouncy castles for the children of the families, as well as a Corn Hole tournament.
“Events like these help to promote brotherhood and confidence in your unit, two important aspects for the success of the Marine Corps mission,” said Nigh. “In order to succeed you need to have faith in the man or woman to your left and right lateral limits.”
Camaraderie is an important factor in the Marine Corps. It helps promote troop welfare and builds trust and respect within a unit. As the holiday season continues, H&HS will continue to host events like feast for the Marines and sailors of the squadron.
“The purpose of this banquet was to show the Marines and their families that they are appreciated for all of their hard work that they put in day in and day out,” said Pelt, “Functions like this feast make us more effective as a squadron while strengthening our bond as Swamp Foxes but more importantly strengthening our bond as United States Marines.”
