PORTSMOUTH, Va. (Nov. 9, 2017) – Navy Medicine East (NME) welcomed new Command Master Chief (CMDCM) Michael Hinkle Nov. 9, 2017.
Hinkle, from Newtown, West Virginia, last served as Naval Hospital Pensacola CMDCM. He relieves acting CMDCM Derek Newell, filling in for CMDCM Christopher Hill, who joined 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing in March 2017.
As the top enlisted Sailor with nearly 30 years naval service, Hinkle brings a wealth of fleet and shore experience to NME.
"Becoming part of Navy Medicine's leadership team is an unbelievable opportunity and honor," said Hinkle. "I'm looking forward to getting to know our Navy Medicine East team of Sailors who deliver care to the more than a million shipmates and their families entrusted to us."
Hinkle will oversee all matters concerning the health, morale and welfare of the approximately 10,000 enlisted Sailors assigned to NME's medical centers, hospitals, branch clinics and support commands that span the eastern hemisphere as well as at the command's 10 worldwide public health activities.
Selection as a CMDCM is based on demonstrated leadership and broad management skills, effective communication and personnel counseling abilities, proven administrative capabilities, motivational character, active involvement in quality of life initiatives, an outstanding performance record and the ability to effectively work with all levels of the chain of command—all qualities Hinkle brings to the table.
Hinkle has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Brenau University and a Master of Business Administration from American Military University.
NME is one of only two regional commands with oversight of Navy Medicine's delivery of care to the Navy and Marine Corps family. It oversees the delivery of medical, dental and other health care services to approximately one million patients across almost 100 facilities-including the Tidewater Military Health System which brings together McDonald Army Health Center, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and U.S. Air Force Hospital Langley.
