KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- In today’s world, the development in technology has resulted in significant changes to the way one communicates. While these technological advances have vastly reshaped the workplace, mostly for the better, it has made most jobs dependent on communication systems working properly without interruption.

The 403rd Communications Flight is tasked with the crucial mission of not only making sure that all communications are up and running, but also that all devices are able to connect to the network and are working properly, managing and controlling who has access to the network, and most importantly, keeping it safe and secure.

“We ensure that the systems we deploy are fully operational and if not, it’s our job to get it back up and running,” said Senior Airman Treviant Evans, 403rd CF client systems technician. “If they are not fully functional, we do a range of troubleshooting steps depending on what kind of system it is. Whether it’s a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or cell phone we have certain procedures that we go through to diagnose and fix the issue.”

According to Evans, those steps can include but are not limited to, replacing hardware, unlocking accounts and getting the device back onto the domain. The complexity of the issue determines the time it takes to resolve the issue. Sometimes it’s a quick fix and other times it might take several days or weeks.

“The support we provide is vital to keeping the mission going smoothly,” said Evans. “We have a very fast-paced work environment, and the challenge is that technology is an ever-changing environment so we must adapt to support the mission.

Not only is the 403rd CF committed to providing mission support, they are also committed to providing exceptional service to Airmen.

“We’re are very focused on ensuring that the customer’s issues are handled in a very timely manner,” said Senior Airman Jacob Tatum Jr., cyber transports systems. “The challenge during unit training assemblies is if someone submits a ticket we only have two days to try and fix the problem, and we don’t have all our resources that we normally do on weekdays. We still do our best to make sure those issues get resolved before the UTA is over. We are always going to do what we can to help anyone that has a problem that needs to be fixed.”

The 403rd CF has five operational sections. Even though each section has different responsibilities, they rely on teamwork and communication between all sections to better help the customer and solve issues in a timely manner so that the communications systems of the units they support are fully functional.

“There are some special characters in here,” said Tatum Jr. “It’s like a big melting pot, everybody brings something unique to the table and we are just a big family. I think it’s important to have that kind of working environment that we do because it makes everyone’s job easier. No matter what section you work in we got each other’s back and we can always lean on each other for help.”
