The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee- focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.
Capt. Joseph Corrigan, commanding officer at Combat Development Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, organized the dodge ball tournament in hopes that it might further emphasize the significance of charity, while introducing Marines to some of the organizations within CFC.
“Being charitable is about the most humane thing a Marine can do,” Corrigan said. “Marines are often perceived as ruthless war fighters, but it is through campaigns such as CFC that we as Marines can provide our nation so much more.”
According to Corrigan, charity is something Marines should practice, whether it is investing time or finances, because no one ever knows when they will be the one down on their luck and needing assistance.
The CFC has been going on for 56 years and has raised more than $8 billion for charitable organizations.
As Marines competed in the dodge ball tournament they were also afforded the opportunity to visit some of the charities’ booths between their matches and learn about their causes.
Corrigan said there will be many more events like this, ranging from bowling to paintball, during the remainder of the year.
This year the CFC is offering several new ways to make giving charitable contributions easier than ever before. These include allowing contributors to pledge online via a centralized giving portal; allowing people to give in-kind donations by pledging volunteer hours through the campaign to share time and talent with their favorite charities; and affording federal retirees the option to continue supporting their favorite charitable causes through the CFC via a deduction from their annuity.
For more information about how to give contact your unit CFC representative or visit https://www.cfcnca.org/ The CFC has approximately 20,000 charities worldwide which participate in the fund raising event, giving federal employees numerous chances to give to their favorite cause in addition to contributing to the CFC as a whole.
