    442 FW holds 'Super UTA'

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, MO, UNITED STATES

    10.19.2017

Story by Senior Airman Melissa Sterling

    442d Fighter Wing

Personnel from the wing offered more than a dozen training and qualification courses to satisfy annual training requirements and requirements for members slated to deploy.

“We have two major tracks of training going on at the same time,” said Lt. Col. Joseph Walter, the 442 FW process manager and one of the coordinators for the training events. “Maintenance and Operations Group members had their own pre-deployment training track.”

The training track for non-deployers consisted of Total Force Awareness Training and other trainings ranging from fork-lift recertification to Blended Retirement System training.

“The schedule is a phenomenal product,” said Col. James Macaulay, the 442 FW vice commander, about the UTA training events. “Lt. Col. Walter and

Maj. Mitchell took a lot of time to coordinate with the support agencies to make this happen.”

Walter assisted in scheduling trainings for non-deployers while Maj. Rick Mitchell, the 303rd Fighter Squadron flight commander, coordinated the deployers’ training schedule. Pre-deployment requirements include immunizations, weapons qualification and self-aid/buddy care to list a few.

Two training tracks call for two objectives to be met: members are ready to deploy and members can focus on hands-on training at UTAs going forward.

“We want to know if it was worthwhile for our Airmen,” said Macaulay. “Our objective was for everyone to go home Sunday afternoon, be out of breath, and say, ‘wow, that was rough, but it was worth it.’”

Starting Monday, wing leadership will review input from supervisors.

“As the wing process manager, I am all about process improvement,” Walter said. “I certainly never had it in my mind that it was going to be perfect. We’re going to have some lessons learned.”

Airmen should let their supervisors know how this weekend affected them, so their supervisor or chain of command can be their advocate, said Walter.
