Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico – Standing in a large group, eagerly awaiting Army Soldiers and Federal Bureau of Investigations Agents, the children of the Casa Orphanage in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico are ready to help unload the food and water alongside their heroes.

Members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation transported and delivered FEMA commodities to the Casa Orphanage in Aguas Buenas , October 10, 2017, with the help of Soldiers from 393rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Fort Buchanan, Puerto, Rico.

“As soon as the FBI realized that the orphanage was in critical need of assistance, we coordinated with FEMA to obtain the necessary supplies to fulfill their needs,” said a special agent involved in the Hurricane Maria relief effort.

The federal agency is supporting FEMA in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria by distributing commodities where they are needed most as efficiently as possible.

Sister Blanca M. Colon Rodriquez, executive director of Casa Orphanage, said that the orphanage is a temporary home for boys ages five through 12 to help them find an adoptive or permanent family. The home can accommodate up to 15 children at a time, but only 13 are currently residing there.

Four Humvees full of FEMA commodities that consisted of boxes of food and water were delivered and unloaded into the home’s pantry.

“The children are grateful and happy,” said Rodriguez. “The children are going to talk about this for a long time. They enjoyed seeing the Soldiers and the policemen, and would like for them to come back and visit.”

Between unloading Humvees, the Soldiers and the special agents played soccer and musical instruments with the kids. It allowed them to ask questions and spend time together while having fun.

“We’re not just agents assigned here,” said an FBI special agent. “We’re here to help the community. We’re here for the people.”

The agents are on a daily mission to distribute food and water throughout different communities across the island.

“To us, this means that we are not alone,” said Rodriguez. “It means that we have these goods, not only for us, but for the community as well. We will go out and share all that we have received and spread that message.”
