FORT BRAGG, N.C. (Aug. 10, 2017) – Rain and dark clouds set the scene for the 1st Theater Sustainment Command color casing ceremony and movement to Fort Knox, K.Y. However, that did not stop the dedicated Soldiers of the 1st TSC from getting it done.
The ceremony took place at Wright Field with the present and former commanders, senior enlisted advisors, family members and friends.
The 1st TSC had a long history and its bond with the local communities dated all the way back to 22 June, 1972 during the Vietnam’s War.
“Words alone cannot express enough thanks to Fayetteville, Spring Lake and all the surrounding communities for the phenomenal support you have given this unit over the years,” said Maj. Gen. Flem B. “Donnie” Walker Jr., the commanding general of the 1st TSC. “Throughout the 70’s, this community was there for us when much of the country wasn’t.”
The command also paid tribute to the dedication, courage and sacrifice of the 1st TSC Soldiers who have fought and died for the freedoms of our country after casing its colors.
“It is said that the very soul of a unit is symbolized in the colors under which it fights,” said Walker. “These colors and streamers record the glories of those of the past and stand guardian over those who serve present, inspiring us all to move constantly forward into the future.”
The decision to move the 1st TSC was part of a group of changes that inactivated several small units at Fort Bragg and moved others to the installation.
The future is full of uncertainties but one thing we know for sure, the 1st TSC will accomplish its mission.
Walker ended his speech with these remarks, “It is such a historic moment for the 1st Sustainment Command. May God continue to bless our Soldiers, families, the Army, and most of all, our great nation.”
