JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Night after night since Sept. 9, 2017, a team of more than 90 Air Force Reservists, assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, have worked tirelessly to launch specially modified C-130 Hercules aircraft for ongoing mosquito control aerial spray missions over areas of eastern Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey. Since operations began, this special mission has treated more than 2.3 million acres at the direction of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to assist in recovery efforts by helping contain the significant increase in pest insects. The aircraft launch to head towards the areas to be treated in eastern Texas early each evening of operations. However, even after launch, activity continues at the base of operations at the Kelly Field annex here.
