SAN DIEGO -- Thirty U.S. Navy Reserve first class petty officers were promoted to the rank of chief petty officer (CPO) during a ceremony inside the hangar of the "Conquistadors" of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 57 (VR-57) at Naval Base Coronado, September 16.
Capt. Brian Ferguson, deputy commander of Naval Air Force Reserve, served as guest speaker at the cermony, and in addressing the assembled chief petty officers, along with their family and friends, helped them celebrate the career milestone.
“We ask you to be professional, proud, and humble, but never arrogant,” said Ferguson. He went on to remind the newly-pinned chiefs that they must always have America’s back, and to embrace the tradition and expertise of their fellow chiefs.
"I offer my most sincere, humble respect to you all and welcome you to the Navy Chief Mess,” said Ferguson.
Chief Personnel Specialist Mary Salazar, who was pinned by her mother Amalia, and her brothers Allen and James, shook hands with those congratulating her and others at the end of the ceremony.
“It’s the best day of my life,” said Salazar. “I thank my family, my mom, my friends, those who work with me, and of course the chiefs mess for giving me guidance through this process.”
“I am a proud mother,” said Amalia Salazar. “We couldn’t be happier. She worked very hard for this!”
