BUFFALO, New York—Four members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District have been deployed to assist in the hurricane response effort following Hurricane Harvey and in anticipation of Hurricane Irma’s aftermath.
“We are fully committed as a district to support these national efforts assisting the people and communities directly impacted”, said Lt. Col. Adam Czekanski, USACE Buffalo District Commander.
In addition to the team already deployed, 22 volunteers are on standby and awaiting possible orders to assist on an Emergency Planning Response Team. Volunteers will be ready to deploy within 6 hours if requested.
According to USACE Headquarters, more than 330 personnel are engaged and operating in coordination with county, state, and FEMA partners for Hurricane Harvey, and more than 350 personnel in anticipation of Hurricane Irma. USACE is focused on reservoir operations, temporary emergency power, debris technical assistance, navigation restoration, temporary housing, and infrastructure assessments.
As of September 11, 2017, the USACE has received 21 FEMA Mission Assignments for Hurricane Harvey, for more than $28 million for temporary power, regional activation, subject matter experts, debris removal technical assistance, temporary housing technical planning, infrastructure assessment, and commodities technical assistance.
