U.S. Armed Forces service members gathered alongside Hampton officials, first responders and community members for the 16th annual “The Reading of The Names” at Gosnolds Hope Park, Hampton, Va., Sept. 11, 2017.
The memorial service honored the lives lost during the terror attack at the Sept. 11, 2001 in New York City and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation while supporting contingency operations around the world from Sept. 11, 2001 to Aug. 27, 2017.
During the event, Gold Star family member, Claudia Johnson, was honored for her son, United States Marine Corps 1st Lt. Michael Johnsons sacrifice for his country, when he was killed in the Kunar Province, Afghanistan, Sept. 8, 2008.
