    107th Attack Wing

    NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2017) — New York Air National Guard Chief Master Sgt. Edward Stefik, a Lewiston resident and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, will become the top enlisted Airman in the 107th Attack Wing during a change of authority ceremony here on Saturday, Sept. 16.

    Members of the press are invited to attend the ceremony.

    WHO: Chief Master Sgt. Edward Stefik, the incoming Command Chief Master Sgt. of the 107th Attack Wing; Chief Master Sgt. Phil Tavenier, the outgoing Command Chief Master Sgt.; and Col. Robert Kilgore, the commander of the 107th Attack Wing.

    WHAT: Change of Authority ceremony in which Stefik formally takes over the position and the responsibilities held by Tavenier. As command chief of the 107th Attack Wing, Stefik will report directly to the commander of the wing on enlisted issues, to include professional military education, enlisted promotions, mentorship, morale, family and community relations, as well as esprit de corps.

    WHERE: Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, Niagara Falls, N.Y.

    WHEN: 3:00 P.M., Saturday, Sept. 16.

    BACKGROUND:

    Command Chief Master Sgt. Edward Stefik:

    New York Air National Guard Command Chief Master Sgt. Edward Stefik has served in the U.S. Army and Air National Guard since 1989.

    He has served as a combat engineer, security forces specialist and NCOIC of detainee movement operations to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He served in the Army Reserve for 16 years before joining the New York Air National Guard in 2008.

    Stefik is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

    He has served in the Army Reserve 98th Division and the 107th Attack Wing when the wing flew the C-130 Hercules. His most recent assignment was superintendent of logistics and operations for the 107th Security Forces Squadron.

    Stefik is a New York State Trooper and holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the State University at Buffalo.

    His awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Air Force Combat Action Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Army Combat Action Badge.

    107th Attack Wing:

    The 107th Attack Wing was established in 1947 as one of the first Air National Guard units in New York state.

    The wing currently flies the MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft. The 107th also has two geographical separated units, the 222nd Command and Control Squadron in Rome, N.Y., and the 274th Air Support Operations Squadron in Syracuse, N.Y.

    At the same time, the wing also deploys Airmen overseas to support contingency operations in various theaters of operations.

    In 2017, the 107th Attack Wing completed it’s conversion to flying remotely piloted aircraft after previously flying the C-130 Hercules, the KC-135 Stratotanker, and a long history of fighter aircraft.
