Story by Senior Airman Shannon Hall

    7th Bomb Wing

On August 25, Capt. Brian Guyette, a 2008 United States Air Force Academy graduate, received the Col. James Jabara Award for Airmanship.
Col. James Jabara was the second leading Air Force ace of the Korean War and the first American jet ace. The Jabara Award for Airmanship was established on Jan. 5, 1967 by the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Jabara family and the Association of Graduates. Each year the award goes to an academy graduate whose airmanship contributions are of greatest significance to the Air Force and set them apart from their contemporaries.
Capt. Guyette, currently assigned to the 77th Weapons Squadron, was previously assigned to the 34th Bomb Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, as well as the 28th Bomb Squadron, Dyess AFB, during the period of this award nomination. He was nominated for the Jabara Award by retired Col. David Benson, former 7th Bomb Wing commander, for his heroic actions while flying combat missions over Iraq and Syria in 2015.
During his time down range, Capt. Guyette led multiple missions in support of Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL where he identified and protected ground troops, precisely delivered numerous weapons and eliminated Islamic State forces and their positions.
During one mission, his strike package released 96,000 pounds of ordinance on target to cut off ISIL’s inbound and outbound supply routes to its headquarters. He completed his deployment flying more than 528 hours during 44 combat sorties and delivering 211 Joint Direct Attack Munitions.
As if his actions while deployed weren’t enough, Guyette excelled at home as well. Upon return from his deployment, he was selected to attend the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, where he graduated as a Distinguished Graduate for class 16A.
While attending USAF Weapons School, Guyette wrote a paper on the integration of standoff weapons titled; “B-1 Global Strike: Mission Planning Cell Support to Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missile Dynamic Targeting.” This revolutionary standoff weapon synchronization was ultimately incorporated into the B-1 community’s tactics and its associated tactical publications.
Guyette and his wife, Capt. Stephanie Guyette, are currently stationed at Dyess AFB where she serves as the 489th Bomb Group executive officer and intelligence officer.
