NORFOLK, Va. – U.S. Navy Cmdr. Christopher J. Tejeda, a Houston native, assumed the duties of Commanding Officer, Naval Support Activity (NSA) Saratoga Springs, August 25.

“This is a wonderful accomplishment for me … I grew up as an inner city youth, enlisted in the Navy upon graduating high school in the early 90s, received a college degree, and now I am very honored to assume command of NSA Saratoga Springs,” said Tejeda. “I look forward to continuing our support of the Fleet, Family and Fighter, and continue serving alongside our outstanding Sailors in the defense of our great nation.”

Tejeda, who has served in the Navy for 21 years, began his career in July of 1992 at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes after graduating from Ross Shaw Sterling High School in Houston. Upon completion of his training, he attended the Fire Controlman “A” school at Naval Education Training Center, Great Lakes, with follow-on orders to Tomahawk/Harpoon “C” schools prior to arriving into the fleet.

His first enlisted sea assignment was aboard USS Stout (DDG 55), where he was selected for the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training commissioning program and awarded a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps scholarship. Tejeda received his commission in May of 2000 after graduating from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Technology.

His completed sea duty assignments include: USS Wadsworth (FFG 9) as CICO/1st Lt.; USS George Washington (CVN 73) as a Reactor Auxiliaries Officer; USS Nicholas (FFG 47) as an Operations Officer; USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) as a 1st Lt.; and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) as an Auxiliaries Officer.

His completed shore assignments include: Afloat Training Group Ingleside (ATGI) as the N3/Lead Training Liaison Officer for Mine Countermeasures Squadron (Ingleside, Texas); Patrol Coastal Squadron One as N6 (Virginia Beach, Va. and Manama, Bahrain); Expeditionary Warfare Collaboration Team as Operations Officer/Lead Surface Warfare (Quantico, Va.); and Carrier Strike Group Four as the Lead Surface Warfare Assessor.

Tejeda has earned the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement medal, along with various unit commendations.

His father, Jose de Jesus Tejeda, and mother, Eduvina Salazar, both reside in Houston.

NSA Saratoga Springs’ mission is to deliver consistently efficient and effective shore readiness and operational support to the Fleet, Fighter, Family, and perform host command functions in support of supported commands and the military community. Services provided include personal property; housing; fleet and family support; administrative; and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) services to all Department of Defense personnel in the New York state capital area, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

NSA Saratoga Springs is one of the most scenic areas of the country, near the capital of New York. Located between the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains the area offers history, recreation, relaxation, activities ranging from the nation’s oldest thoroughbred racetrack to historic natural spring spas, and it is also the location where the Battle of Saratoga was won, which was pivotal in America’s fight for independence.
