U.S. Navy and Sri Lanka Navy Divers concluded a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) on Naval Base Guam Aug. 17.

The five-day SMEE event was conducted to ensure divers were familiar with each other’s equipment, ensure safety proficiency, and identify common practices in the water in preparation for the upcoming Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Sri Lanka exercise later this summer.

“We might not always speak the same language, but all of us Divers speak ‘Deep Sea,’” said Master Chief Navy Diver Joshua Dumke, Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific Master Diver. “Events like this are important tools Divers can use to foster great working relationships and enable us to respond quickly in case of emergency operations.”

During the SMEE event, participants conducted more than 20 dive evolutions spending approximately 11 hours in the water. They also observed a chamber response drill in accordance with local Bends directives at the Naval Base Guam Dive Locker.

“We are all looking forward to CARAT Sri Lanka where we can build on the skills we worked over the past week,” said Dumke.“
