The 179th Airlift Wing hosted Family Day on August 13, 2017, on base in Mansfield, Ohio. This event gave Airmen the opportunity to bring their family and friends to the wing for a day of food and activities.
Emily Bachman, the Airman and Family Readiness program manager at the 179th Airlift Wing, was in charge of planning and executing Family Day.
“Basically we intended to host an event as a morale boost for members and their families to come out and enjoy,” said Bachman. “It gave the families a chance to see where their members work and the environments they work in.”
Although Family Day took place in August, it has been in progress for months.
“We actually started with funding information in the fall and we started planning right around January,” said Bachman. “This definitely was a team effort. But it was well worth it to see everyone enjoy the day.”
A wide variety of activities were held at family day including a static C-130H Hercules display, face painting, a tractor-pull, food trucks, laser tag, a DJ, bubble soccer, face painting, a mechanical shark and much more.
Bachman plans on hosting more family-oriented events for the Wing in the future.
“There’s going to be a lot of different fun things going in the coming year too,” said Bachman. “Just keep your eye on the save the dates flyers.”
