The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, co-hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Pacific Northwest Waterways Association to celebrate the completion of construction at Jetty A, the first significant milestone in the Major Rehabilitation of the Mouth of the Columbia River Jetty System.
Jetty A is one of three jetties that make up the Mouth of the Columbia River Jetty System along with North Jetty and South Jetty. The Major Rehabilitation of the Mouth of the Columbia River Jetty System, a multi-year project, is expected to wrap up in September of 2023.
The jetties have weathered the effects of mother-nature for more than 120 years. The Major Rehabilitation should extend the life of the jetties another 50 years, helping to ensure the reliability of the federal navigation system in the Pacific Northwest for future generations.
The event included partners from the U.S. Coast Guard; the City of Ilwaco, Washington; the Port of Ilwaco, the Port of Kalama, the Columbia River Pilots Association and featured Patty Murray, the United States Senator for Washington State.
