FORWARD OPERATING BASE WARHORSE, Iraq - Darting between legs and squezzing behind furniture Kindi, a five month old puppy, is the life of the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment headquarters office.

Kindi, named for the Iraqi village he was found in, is energetic and playful. He lights up the office and makes it a more fun and exciting place to work, said Kindi's handler, Capt. Derek Szmyt, 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment officer in charge.

In early March, 2nd Squadron Soldiers were conducting mounted patrols in the Iraqi town Kindi near Baghdad. The 2nd SCR Soldiers spotted Iraqi children kicking and throwing an object back and forth, said Szmyt.

When they got closer they realized it was a dog, the Soldiers were able to get the dog and bring him back to Warhorse, Szmyt went on to say.

Slowly but surely, under the care of 2nd Squadron Soldiers, Kindi has grown and filled out his still puppy sized frame.

Little Kindi bounces about the office sticking his head in doors and nipping at passing Soldiers heels with an excitement and curiosity found only in a jovial little puppy like Kindi.

"He brightens everyone's day," said Szmyt. "He gets compliments that he reminds people of their own dogs they have back home. He's sort of like a small reminder of home," Szmyt went on to say.

Kindi is enrolled in the Baghdad Pups program which seeks to bring dogs befriended by American Soldiers back home with the Soldiers who they mean so much to.

"Hopefully Kindi will be able to come home with us. But if not we have been given assurances that the incoming commander will take care of him for us," said a grateful handler Szmyt.

With a glowing future in front of him and a haply wagging tale behind, Kindi will continue to bring smiles to the faces of the Soldiers he meets and lift the spirits of everyone on Forward Operating Base Warhorse.
